They're just 3 meters (9.8 feet) by 3 meters and just about as high. They'd make great tiny homes, but these portable cube prefabs- they can be moved on a flatbed (in 2 parts) and dropped anywhere with a forklift- are being used across France as rural hotels. Carré d'étoiles translates to "box of stars" and this vacation prefab was designed for stargazing, with a large domed skylight just feet above the lofted bed. It's less than 100 square feet, but it sleeps four (platform and sofa beds) and includes a kitchen with stove, sink and refridgerator, sitting area, a bathroom, a shower, plus storage and shelving. They're not cheap, but the 30,900 euro (~$40,000) price tag, includes all transport to the site and marketing (since it's assumed they'll be used as vacation rentals). In this vi...

If you were homeless, could you still pick up chicks? Meet Joe, the homeless Millennial who has mastered the art of getting women to take him home with them. Originally from Boston, Joe, 26, may spend his daylight hours panhandling in Manhattan – making up to $150 on a given day – but his nights are a completely different ballgame. If you don’t think Joe looks homeless, well, that’s only because he’s good at what he does. According to Joe, his only responsibility is to not look homeless. In his mind, his appearance is a survival tactic. Joe spends whatever money he makes on keeping his appearance up, in addition to copious amounts of drugs and booze, with one goal in mind: attract as many girls as possible. For Joe, sleeping with a lady is his only chance at sleeping with a roof over ...
Vincent Pinder quit his job, out of disgust, as a Senior Case Manager at one of New York City’s largest homeless shelter providers. Now, he’s being threatened. “Well, I got a mysterious call yesterday, they claimed to be from DHS, asking me to retract my story - otherwise i would not work in this county again. It was very frightening,” said Vincent. In spite of the haunting phone call demanding he take back everything he’s told us…this whistle blower insisted on speaking out - again…for the homeless residents he was hired to serve.

http://www.meetup.com/Functional-Thursday/events/219984096/ Godzilla is attacking New York, and your task is to choose, for each shelter in the city, a nearest shelter to evacuate to. Luckily, distance between shelters is measured by Manhattan length, which allows us to complete the task in O(n log n) time. We present two algorithms: an algorithmic solution that solves the problem by a list-homomorphism, and a data structure based solution that exploits a "thinning" property.
